Chinese CRN Launches Initiative to Address Financial Abuse and Literacy
The Chinese CRN team led by Coordinator Daisy Au of MOSAIC BC and Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House have been hard at work organizing the first of six monthly forums on elder financial literacy with the inaugural session taking place on December 14.
The sessions will be conducted in both Cantonese and Mandarin languages with the intention of helping the Chinese-speaking community understand the issue of financial abuse and how they can start the conversation with someone they know who might be abused. Tri-Cities CRN Plans Online Christmas Social
The Tri-Cities CRN has been planning all month for their upcoming online Christmas Social on December 16 from 1-3 PM.
Join Regional Mentor Ken Kuhn for two hours of trivia, music, draw prizes, and sharing. Bring your own beverage and enjoy the company of fellow seniors, their families, and caregivers.

Sparwood CRN Delivers Meals to Seniors
The Sparwood CRN team delivered frozen lasagnas and cupcakes to 67 seniors in the community on November 4.
Kudos to team members Tracey Brook-Baker, Shelley Wedderburn, Barbara Fontana Endicott, and Debbie Altomare. The team is led by CRN Coordinator Lois Halko.

Castlegar CRN Ramps Up Seniors’ Activities, Collecting Donations for GWEN
Through the Kootenay IRIS program, the Castlegar CRN, with coordinator Sandi McCreight at the helm, has been very busy organizing seniors’ social activities and learning opportunities.
A few of their accomplishments this month include holding its first IRIS Movie Day where 17 people enjoyed complimentary popcorn and the movie Bucket List starring Jack Nicholson; hosting luncheons and lunch and learn session where volunteers prepared healthy meals for its guests and participants (Their last lunch and learn had Christie Heuston from the Nelson Elder Abuse Prevention Program presenting on the topic of personal planning, which was so popular they had a repeat performance.); and weekly coffee socials.
The team is also working with the local hockey team, the Castlegar Rebels, to collect donations for the Giving What Elders Need (GWEN) Initiative to bring in Christmas gifts for seniors and children. Fans who attend home games between now and December 3 will have the opportunity to choose a tag from a Christmas tree that features an item – blankets, hats, scarves, gloves, gift cards, chocolates – for donation to a person in need.

The Kamloops CRN is partnering with the Centre for Seniors Information (CSI) Kamloops on Operation: Secret Santa where you can sponsor a lonely senior who will receive a gift from their secret Santa during the holidays.
