Cheryl Stinson
Regional Mentor
cheryl.stinson@bccrns.caCheryl Stinson has been the Campbell River CRN coordinator since 2020. Her earlier career was spent in operations management and people development. As the director of operations in market research & medical market research she continued to hone her skills in understanding how diverse we are. How we think, feel, react and what motivates us, or demoralizes us. That plus a core value in a people first, not person philosophy is the lens that has led her into her work and volunteerism with vulnerable adults and older adults.
Her passion for making a difference kicked into high gear when she joined the BC Non-Profit Housing Association in 2010 first, as a volunteer and then as the member service coordinator.
In 2015, she and her husband decided to move from Vancouver to Campbell River to support her husband’s mother age in place. Needing to find a way to connect with and contribute to the community she quickly joined the board of CR & North Island Transition Society. She joined Berwick Retirement Communities in the role of community relations manager. Every day was full of actively listening and learning. Learning what ageing meant to older adults and their families. Learning what it meant to feel loss of independence in its many ways. And, conversely what it means to feel valuable and want to live with purpose.
It was during this time that it became apparent that most people are not aware of the services that are available for older adults or how to access them. For most, it is overwhelming to navigate in a more technology-based word to find and access resources.
Finding ways to educate, empower, and build confidence in vulnerable and older adults led to her decision to leave Berwick and take on new roles, collaborations and projects. These included a pilot project for a Campbell River Seniors Info Hub, facilitating a Dementia Awareness planning project, an Emergency Response for Vulnerable Adults project, etc.
