The South Shuswap Community Response Network, in partnership with Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre, held their very first Frosty’s Free Fun Day on February 15th. Organizers were overjoyed with the response.

After being greeted by Frosty blow-ups, people of all ages gathered around a roaring fire to enjoy hot chocolate and cookies. A Frosty the Snowman photo stand was very popular, and many families took advantage of taking hilarious photos.

As the sun came out, families went on a scavenger hunt, looking for things like icicles, red berries and animal tracks. Once completed, participants were encouraged to select their prizes and there were lots to choose from. Of particular interest were the BCCRN purple key chains complete with a compass, a tiny flashlight and a whistle!

The snow, unfortunately, did not cooperate so there were no snowmen built. But there was a good collection of snowman paraphernalia (mittens, scarves and hats) donated to The Safe Society.

The Centre kitchen staff were on hand to greet people at lunch, serving delicious homemade root vegetable soup and pretzel buns. Our face painter was kept busy from 10 am until 2:30 pm with a break to enjoy lunch. Draws were done at this time and gifts included everything from a heart shaped teacup and saucer to gift cards and the grand prize, a basket full of sweet treats.

Thank you to everyone who attended…mark your calendars and bring friends: we’ll be doing this again next year with even more fun planned. Thanks also to our wonderful sponsors, the United Way, SSCRN, BCCRN and the Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre. We are so grateful for all the volunteers who helped make this event a huge success.
