In the lead-up to World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), BC CRN partnered with the Office of the Seniors Advocate, Seniors First BC, Family Caregivers of BC, and the Council to Reduce Elder Abuse to host a media event in Vancouver on June 12. The gathering shone a spotlight on the urgent and ongoing issue of elder abuse in our province, while also celebrating the strength, resilience, and contributions of older adults. This year’s Canadian WEAAD theme — “Be Bold, Age with Attitude” — served as a powerful call to action, underscoring the vital work being done across British Columbia to support seniors in living with dignity, confidence, and courage.
The event attracted strong media coverage across television, radio, and print in the Lower Mainland. BC CRN Executive Director Heather Treleaven reflected, “It was a powerful experience to stand shoulder to shoulder with our partner agencies and send the message that in this province, seniors have the right to be safe and live with dignity.”
