BC CRN Provincial Conference Brings Connection, Inspiration, and Collective Momentum

The 2025 BC Association of Community Response Networks (BC CRN) Provincial Conference brought together over 130 Coordinators, Regional Mentors, and Provincial Team members from across British Columbia for two inspiring days of learning, reflection, and connection.

A highlight of the conference was the keynote address from BC Seniors Advocate, Dan Levitt, whose presentation on the state of senior services in BC received a standing ovation. His insights and optimism set the tone for a conference grounded in purpose and collaboration.

Dr. Kyra Garson challenged us to explore our unconscious biases and deepen our understanding of diversity and inclusion. Ben Kadel and April Struthers inspired attendees with tools and strategies to strengthen our collective impact as social change networks, while Jodie McDonald closed the conference with a timely reminder of the importance of self-care in human service work.

Two engaging panels showcased the power of community partnerships and cross-sector collaboration. The first featured Sandi McCreight (Castlegar CRN), Mike Sauer (Vancouver Granville Woodland CRN), Celina Hall (Terrace CRN), and Carmel Tanaka (Jewish Queer Trans CRN), who shared creative approaches to building strong, inclusive community networks. The second highlighted the work of the BC Adult Abuse Neglect Collaborative, with Sgt. Joseph Chidlow (RCMP), Tina Chang (Seniors First BC), Angelina Gordon (Public Guardian & Trustee), and Carolyn Turner (Vancouver Coastal Health) discussing the importance of shared responsibility in protecting vulnerable adults.

Throughout the two days, Maria Turnbull of Vantage Point guided participants as an engaging and thoughtful MC, keeping the energy high and conversations meaningful.

A heartfelt thank you to the Conference Organizing CommitteeKelina Kwan, Joanna Li, Anjeli Marshall, Micki Materi, and Sandi McCreight — for planning such a fun, engaging, and well-organized event. Special thanks as well to the Province of British Columbia for their ongoing support, and to the City of Richmond, Fortis BC, and Magik Moments Photo Booths for helping make the conference a success.

Together, we were reminded of what makes BC CRN’s network so powerful, people coming together, sharing ideas, and working collectively to build safer, more connected communities across our province. Thank you to all of our members who made time to be part of the conference.
