Provincial Learning Event Webinar: What’s not “right” about my age? Strategies for resistance and change

We were pleased to host our September Provincial Learning Event, What’s not ‘right’ about my age ? is a new module in the It’s Not Right! Neighbours, Friends and Families for Older Adults (INR) learning resources. INR teaches people to recognize and respond in situations of abuse and neglect of older people. This workshop focuses specifically on our learned self-ageism and how cultural assumptions about aging shape expectations, behaviour, and community responses play a role in our lives.

Addressing ageism is an important part of elder abuse prevention because cultural assumptions about aging shape how vulnerability is interpreted, whether concerns are taken seriously, and how neighbours, friends, and family members respond when an older person may need support or protection.
