Mary Catherine brings over 40 years of experience working and volunteering in the social sector with children, families, vulnerable and older adults and communities, to promote well-being, safety and success. She has been a front-line worker in childcare, family support and community development initiatives, as well as an organizational leader in volunteerism and senior support services. She has collaborated in many community initiatives with a focus on healthy child and family programs, mental health and addictions prevention and supports, immigrant and refugee settlement, supports for aging adults, initiatives for reconciliation, and promoting community resilience. She has co-developed several curriculum with a focus on health and wellbeing for people across the lifespan and has regional and national experience in reconciliation and equity initiatives. Recently, she has been a community partner in research initiatives about Aging and Technology and Caregivers of those Living with Dementia.

Mary Catherine is a long-time home share provider and advocate for an individual with intellectual disability and was an active member of a refugee support group for 11 people who relocated to Campbell River in 2015-2018. Mary Catherine is a settler of English, Irish and German descent, a wife, mother and grandmother. She respectfully acknowledges that she is a guest and very thankful to live, work, play and volunteer in the unceded, traditional territory of the Laichwiltach People.
