Community Response Networks

Sicamous and Area Community Response Network

We respectfully acknowledge that we are on the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwepemc First Nations and are grateful to work and build community on this land.

Sicamous is a district municipality located adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway at the Highway 97A junction, where Mara Lake empties into Shuswap Lake via short narrows. Sicamous is the eastern gateway to the Shuswap. The surrounding area of Columbia Shuswap Regional District E is the rural area surrounding the District of Sicamous and includes the unincorporated areas of Swansea Point in the south and Malakwa to the east. Sicamous and Malakwa offers a compelling mix of natural beauty, community spirit, and active lifestyle, ideal for quality living in British Columbia.

A Community Response Network is a diverse group of concerned community members, service providers, agencies, businesses, and professionals who come together to create a coordinated community response to vulnerable adult abuse, neglect, and self-neglect. CRNs are the vehicles for achieving increased coordination of community responses by raising awareness and building a foundation for communities. Many healthcare, service agencies and seniors’ groups in this region offer services focusing on community health and wellness. This CRN works together and builds networking to ensure vulnerable adults in the communities are supported through education and advocacy.

As part of the BC Association of Community Response Networks, the Sicamous and Area Community Response Network continues to grow to include other interested member agencies and organizations. The Sicamous and District Senior’s Centre Society is the host agency, partner, sponsor, and a member of the Sicamous and Area Community Response Network which meet to help connect organizations, neighbours, and others in the area, to facilitate networking and perhaps some collaborative projects. As the host agency, The Sicamous and District Senior’s Centre Society is an activity centre for local senior, they offer coffee meetings, lunch and activities, and host events for all ages. The Centre serves as a community hub and is first contact for people with a variety of needs and concerns, ensuring they are connected to local, provincial, and national resources to meet their needs. The CRN also hosts prevention and education activities to all ages. Total population for Sicamous and the surrounding CSRD E district total is approximately 5400, 2100 are 60+ in age which is 39%. These are permanent residents.
