Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows/Katzie Community Response Network

Maple Ridge is a city located in Greater Vancouver between the Golden Ears Regional Park and the Fraser River. Founded in 1874, it is the fifth oldest city in BC. It currently has a population of over 82,000 residents. Pitt Meadows is a city directly to the west of Maple Ridge, and is named after nearby Pitt River and Pitt Lake. Both cities fall within the traditional territory of the Katzie First Nation, an area that extends from the Fraser River to Boundary Bay. The Katzie people speak a dialect of the Halkomelem language, which survives to present day.
