According to the Canadian Red Cross, older adults are most at risk during emergencies. Ice and snowstorms, power outages, flooding, inadequate housing and the inability to shop for food or socialize affect both the mental and physical health of vulnerable adults.
Disasters and emergencies often happen without warning, so it’s critical to have a plan in place before one occurs. The Red Cross recommends three considerations: knowing the risks, making a plan and assembling an emergency kit.
