On June 15th, pull out all your purple duds and accessories and show us how you’ll be shining a (purple) light on adult abuse, neglect, and self-neglect!
The BC Community Response Networks, through their many local CRNs networks, mark this important day with “purple power” the official colour of WEAAD. Many events and activities have been planned and are still in the preparation stages. If you are still in need of help planning your event, check out our WEAAD 2023 page ideas like passing out irises – the official flower, and other fun, meaningful ways to spread awareness on adult abuse, neglect, and self-neglect prevention.
We encourage everyone to participate and share your stories by:
- Wearing and decorating your event area with purple
- Take high resolution clear photos of your event and send them to BC CRN
- Summarize, scan, and submit your project report to the BC CRN
- Plan to attend the webinars listed on our homepage under Upcoming Events
- Post one of our custom BC CRN images to your social media.
- Post your content on your Facebook page, make sure you follow the BC CRN page, tag @BCCRNS, and use the hashtags #BCCRNWEAAD2023 #WEAAD2023
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) was officially recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 66/127, December 2011, following a request by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA), who first established the commemoration in June 2006.
Today it is estimated that as many as 1 in 6 seniors experience some form of abuse or neglect. June 15th is the annually recognized World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) when the whole world joins as one voice to raise awareness and opposition to the abuse and suffering inflicted on adults, older adults, and seniors in our communities.
Connect with your local CRN, or for more information on this topic, visit our website, the Canadian Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse website, WEAAD.ca, or Seniors First.
