The North Shore CRN offered a free online music therapy session on February 25, 2021, to help relieve stress and reduce social isolation in seniors with dementia and their caregivers, cultivate social interaction, maintain cognitive function, and connection with their past and with their present loved ones, all with a view to increasing quality of life for seniors. The session was facilitated by Alexina Davis (MTA, MT-BC) who is a Certified Music Therapist specializing in working with seniors.

Check out the latest video on adult abuse and neglect by Revelstoke Community Response Network. It provides a great overview of the topic and how community “gatekeepers” can help. (If you want more, be sure to request a free Gatekeeper workshop!) Kudos to all involved! (Video length: 3:44 min.)

Valentine’s Day came early for seniors in Castlegar, thanks to the Kootenay Increasing Recreation In Seniors (IRIS) Project led by the Castlegar CRN! Valentine’s Day cards and treats from volunteer Michelle Postnikoff, Robson School students, Silly Monkey’s Daycare, and some Grade 12 students led by volunteer Reegan.

“The generosity and heart-warming intergenerational connecting is amazing and so appreciated. Thank you so much for your artworks, your baking, and for thinking of others during these tough times. What you do makes a big difference. Creating connections, showing others you care, now more than ever, is vital to our community. Thank you!” (Quote source: Kootenay IRIS Facebook)

The Sunshine Coast CRN trained volunteers at the Sunshine Coast Hospice Society in spotting abuse and neglect signs, and understanding how and when to intervene. Using their handbook as a resource and providing in-depth education on the topic, the CRN customized the content specifically for the hospice context, providing tools and clarity in the role they have.
