CRNs Recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) 2022
Communities from all over the province showed off their “purple power”, joining the worldwide efforts to raise awareness of adult abuse, pledging that “human rights don’t get old”.
Proclamations, purple city lights, and in-person and online events made a resounding comeback after two quieter years resulting from pandemic safety measures. Community members and Community Response Networks (CRNs) spread the word on adult abuse prevention on social media and local news outlets.

Chinese CRN
The Chinese CRN, hosted by MOSAIC, marked WEAAD 2022 with Senior Life is Colourful on June 15. The team hosted a large in-person event that was also live-streamed through YouTube. The event capped off a six-month-long financial literacy campaign that consisted of eight individual seminars that attracted over 200 seniors who shared their stories of financial abuse and exploitation. Comox Courtenay CRN

Sunshine Coast CRN
The Sunshine Coast CRN with the help Regional Mentor April Struthers and Coordinator Vicki Dobbyn had a couple of WEAAD events. On June 15 they visited the more remote parts of the Sunshine Coast, partnering with health centre staff, the Local Learning Centre and the Older Adults Social Group (Photos 1 to 4).
On June 28, the CRN was at Shishalh Hospital in Sechelt (photo 5). April talked with Jane McDonald, Sechelt Hospital Foundation Executive Director about joining forces for MedTalks Series in September. TriCities CRN
Regional Mentor Fraser Valley West Ken Kuhn, Coordinator Verla Scoffins hosted a drive-thru information booth at Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam that attracted visitors from all over the Tri-Cities, including Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart and MLA Fin Donnelly. Vancouver Island LOVE CRN Shows its PRIDE with a Leap of Faith!
