Westshore Communities Proclaim WEAAD 2022

Thanks to the work of Westshore Community Response Network (CRN) Coordinator Gabi Townsend, several Victoria-area communities, including the city of Victoria and the District of Saanich, are proclaiming June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)! WEAAD displays have also been set up in Langford: if you are doing business in the Langford Vancity Branch, be sure to pick up some important adult abuse information and share it widely!

Whistler Proclaim WEAAD 2022, Light Up Fitzsimmons Bridge

Thanks to the work of the Sea-to-Sky CRN, the municipality of Whistler has proclaimed June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day! Be sure to visit the Fitzsimmons Bridge that evening and check out the purple lights!

Mount Pleasant CRN Invites Seniors to Lunch on June 14

If you are a senior who is 55+ and living in the Vancouver Mount Pleasant area, the Mount Pleasant CRN cordially invites you to wear your best purple attire and join them for lunch on June 14 to recognize WEAAD 2022! Presentations, performances, and gift bags are also on the agenda.

Tri-City CRN and Partners Host Pathways to Better Health Forum on June 8

The daylong event has a jam-packed program that includes lectures on population and public health wellness, seniors’ transportation, seniors’ health care and healthy aging, vaccinations, dementia, BC211, and fall prevention.

APNI CRN Celebrate all Mothers on Mother’s Day

The APNI Community Response Network (CRN), which supports Surrey’s South Asian seniors, organized a potluck feast on May 13 to celebrate Mother’s Day. The event took place at the Shanti Niketan Hall of Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Surrey.

Lunches, Plants, Crafts and a Tradeshow: The Castlegar CRN Keeps Seniors Busy

The Castlegar CRN, through the Kootenay IRIS program, continue to keep seniors in their community fully engaged! This month, in addition to regular senior luncheons, the IRIS crew organized crafts, gardening, and even found time to spread the word about the program and adult abuse at a local trade show.

Chinese CRN Continues with Literacy Forums with Seniors

The Chinese CRN partnered with the China Vancouver Centre to host a seminar on senior financial management on May 12. In the two-hour-long session, volunteers walked participants through different scenarios to empower seniors to manage their finances on their own terms. Learn more about how the Chinese CRN is tackling the complex issue of financial abuse in the Chinese-speaking community.
