Tea Time Live with the Houston, Smithers, and Wii O’om’ Niin Hazelton CRNs
Through the Magical Backyard Medicines program, which developed on the traditional territories of the Wet’su’we’ten and Gitxsan peoples who have been stewards of the land for time immemorial, and rests in an ‘all my relations’ way of connection to life and land, the CRNs hosted Tea Time with Ross and Lorraine on March 26, 2022, in Bovill Square in Smithers, BC.
Ross McRae (Fire Squirrel Chaser) and Lorraine Half (Baby Skin) from the Gitxsan Territories oversee the traditional plant knowledge and expertise of the region.
During the four-hour session, Ross and Lorraine prepared spruce tip and rose bush tea for in-person guests to sample, and community members, including Belinda Lacombe, BC CRN Regional Mentor – North Western BC, performed traditional songs to mark the afternoon.

Beaver Valley CRN Launches New Seniors Ambassador Program
Coordinator Jayme Fowler and her team were busy this month launching a new seniors ambassador program that will offer weekly social activities for independent seniors looking to safely meet other seniors in the community.

Castlegar CRN Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with 55 Seniors
The Castlegar CRN through the Kootenay Increasing Recreation Involving Seniors (IRIS) Program attracted 55 of the community’s seniors, who came prepared to celebrate the day dressed in green. Guests were treated to homemade chili and pineapple angel food cake prepared by volunteers. Door prizes for awarded to any one in attendance who wore green.

Vancouver Grandview Woodland CRN Open House
On March 11, the CRN held in-person and virtual open houses to introduce the community to their new host agency – the Grandview Woodland Community Policing Centre (GWCPC).
GWCPC along with Joanna Li, BC CRN Regional Mentor – Vancouver safely welcomed the public to their centre located on Commercial Drive in East Vancouver.
All participants also had the opportunity to:
- Learn more about the GWCPC.
- Discover how they make a difference in the quality of life of seniors and other vulnerable adults.
- Help identify individuals that would benefit from accessing local community resources.
- Be part of the community support network team/
- Raise awareness of barriers that these community members face.
- Collaborate with other organizations to build a safe community with the goal of preventing abuse, neglect, and self-neglect of adults.

Vancouver Marpole CRN Shine Light on Senior Renter Issues
All month long, CRN Coordinator Andrea Krombein and the South Vancouver Seniors Network hosted weekly webinars, all free to the public on various topics to help senior tenants, landlords, and building managers learn more about the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords.
The presenters included:
- The BC Human Rights Clinic of the Community Legal Assistance Society.
- The Tenant Resource Advisory Centre (TRAC)
- The Residential Tenancy Branch of BC
- The Vancouver Police Department (VPD)
- Seniors First

Tri-Cities CRN Online Valentine’s Day Social

Participants in the annual Valentine’s Day Zoom Trivia, Memories, Fun, Movies, and Music Party had many laughs and good stories to share. Some of the “love stories” were emotional and fun.
Thanks for sharing. A few examples of some of the trivia are below. Next February 14th, 2023–join us for some fun–wearing red, with a beverage of your choice, and a time to relax and share.
