CRN 2024 Fellowship Awards to BC Youth Engaged in Seniors’ Issues

In celebration of International Intergenerational Day, several CRNs offered Fellowship Awards for prize-winning student essays about seniors’ issues, specifically adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect. Creston, South Vancouver Island, Sparwood and Vanderhoof proudly presented cheques to local award recipients.

Sparwood CRN

Sparwood CRN committee members met with Bree Chardonnens on July 17, 2024 at the Sparwood Golf Club to present her with our 2024 Fellowship Award and a cheque and to wish her well!

Committee members Shelley Wedderburn, Rose Sharma, Barb Endicott and Lois Halko attended. Recipient Bree Chardonnens was accompanied by her mother, Paula Chardonnens, and her grandmother, Peggy Beswick, both from Sparwood.

Committee members Tracey Brook-Baker and Kelly Thies were unable to attend.

Creston CRN

Congratulations to Crystal Steed, recipient of the Creston CRN Fellowship Award. Crystal, a 2024 Kootenay River Secondary School graduate, was awarded the scholarship for someone going into a relevant field, such as nursing, long-term care, etc. Crystal answered a few questions and submitted a short essay about adult abuse, neglect and self-neglect.

Nik McCready, CRN Coordinator, took the photo.

Vanderhoof CRN

Vanderhoof CRN offered its first Awards of Excellence opportunity. It was added to the local scholarship booklet, and essays were received from five applicants. Wynne Fitzpatrick and Jorja Bangs from Nechako Valley Secondary are the equally deserving recipients. The CRN recipients’ names were announced at their graduation ceremony.

Wynne, pursuing a nursing career, says, “I’ve learned firsthand the impact that chronic illness can have on families. I want to provide quality care and be a well-rounded, compassionate nurse.”

Jorja’s ambition is to become a doctor. She says, “Medicine has always been a dream and I plan to work hard to reach that goal.”

West Shore CRN

Congratulations to Keira R., the successful West Shore CRN Fellowship Award applicant. Keira is an outstanding student with a bright future. We wish her the best in her future endeavours!
