SUMMARY:What’s Not ‘Right’ About My Age? Strategies for resistance and change
DESCRIPTION:We were pleased to host our September Provincial Learning Event\, What’s not ‘right’ about my age ? This workshop focuses specifically on our learned self-ageism and how cultural assumptions about aging shape expectations\, behaviour\, and community responses play a role in our lives. \nAddressing ageism is an important part of elder abuse prevention because cultural assumptions about aging shape how vulnerability is interpreted\, whether concerns are taken seriously\, and how neighbours\, friends\, and family members respond when an older person may need support or protection. \nMargaret MacPherson: \nMargaret is a Research Associate with the Centre for Research and Education on Violence against Women and Children (CREVAWC) at Western University in London Ontario. Margaret designs and develops curriculum and related materials on a number of initiatives including the Make It Our Business\, workplace domestic violence program and It’s Not Right!
