The Secwepemc First Nation, known in English as the Shuswap, have lived in BC Interior for thousands of years. Their traditional territory includes the regions in the eastern Chilcotin and Cariboo Plateaus through to the Thompson and Shuswap counties. The language of the Secwepemc, Secwepemctsín, is still spoken today by over 1,600 people.
